We've assembled some of the most essential pieces of Polar gear to make preparing for your next Quark Expedition a breeze. Conveniently packaged into a carry-on approved tote, you'll be well prepared for any weather condition.
Wateproof Pants by Helly Hansen
The second most important layer you'll wear (1st being your Quark Parka). These waterproof pants are lightweight and durable. They're quick-drying, breathable, seam-sealed and are roomy enough to fit over your boots and base-layers. They'll keep you dry from ship to shore!
Merino Wool Blend Baselayer Top and Bottom
For warmth and comfort throughout the day, the merino wool blended base-layers (pants and a long sleeve crew-neck top) are worn over your underwear and next to your skin. The fabric is constructed from a merino wool blend; it will keep you warm, wick moisture away from the body, allow air to circulate throughout your layers and provide stretch for ease of movement. Versatile enough to wear all day. They also double as great pajamas!
Fleece Mid-Layer Top and Bottom
When the temperatures drop you'll need extra warmth to stay comfortable on your landings. We've included a set of fleece; a top and a bottom to wear over your base-layers. These add extra warmth and create a loft effect in your layers, allowing warm air to circulate throughout. Made from ultra-soft polyester fleece, these will make a cold day seem not so bad.
Polar Expedition Toque
Although the old saying "you lose most heat through your head" can't be proven, it sure does feel that way when you're standing on the antarctic peninsula. We've included a toque with a fold over headband to keep you warm. It can be pulled down over the ears if necessary, and it has "Polar Explorer" embroidered on the side - so your friends know where you've been.
Bulky scarves get in the way - neck-warmers are the way to go. Worn around the neck, it can provide great warmth to an area that's often exposed to the conditions. In a pinch it can be folded in half to become a headband or pulled up over the nose in blowing snow conditions.
3 pack Hand Warmers and 1 pair Foot Warmers
These small heat packs are worth their weight in gold when you're in the middle of a long hike and the weather turns. The hand warmers can be put in gloves or pockets for a day of heat. The foot-warmers are a real treat - use them on a day where you plan to do a lot of walking over snowy terrain to keep your spirits high. If you need more - you can purchase extra from the polar boutique on-board.
SPF 50 Sunscreen, SPF 30 Face-Stick, SPF 30 Lip Balm
Don't be fooled by the cold temperatures - you'll find quite a few red noses and cheeks after the first landing. The suns UV Rays can be stronger than normal in the polar regions, so protect yourself every time you leave the ship or spend time on deck. We've included travel-friendly sizes of an SPF 50 sport sunscreen (designed and tested for the harshest conditions), a small face stick for the nose / cheeks (bring this out in your day pack) which are both fragrance free and hypoallergenic. There's also a great SPF 30 lip-balm in a coconut flavor to keep your lips from drying and cracking in the harsh climate.
- The above items are all included in our core package for $299! You can choose to add a pair of gloves and a 3-pack of expedition socks to complete your set;
